I do fully intend to put pictures up every time I blog... pictures of what I'm wearing that day or what article of clothing I found interesting. Not because I think I exude amazing style or am any form of authority on fashion, but just because in years to come it will be hilarious and inspiring to look back on what I used to wear.
But for now, I'd like to tell you about a stain. I'm wearing my gold/orange pants that I adore (from Delia's) with a black and white striped sweater/shirt. I was sitting in my Acting I class and the girl next to me says "I like your pants... I wouldn't know what to wear with them, but I like them." I love those half compliments, half 'I should've just put my foot in my mouth' comments. And I smiled, said 'thanks', and informed her that I generally just wear neutral colors with them. Later, she tells me she likes my socks... we can't wear shoes in the studio room and I very rarely give a crap if my socks match each other let alone my outfit, well today they were bright orange with turquoise toes and heels and I laughed outloud this time, knowing she had just said that for something to say and not really because she enjoyed my socks. I got to wondering, if we were all more honest about what we really do like and don't like with clothing... our styles would be far more interesting. Not that we would have to vocalize every fashion approval or disapproval to our neighbors, but rather if we were just honest with ourselves and didn't compromise a risky fashion choice to avoid curious glances.
If when we overheard someone saying they thought our shoe/pant combo looked ridiculous we didn't immediately label our outfit a failure but rather owned it and treasured it as a creative exploration, wearing clothes would be much more fun.
